Magic in the Gorge: Danielle and David’s Rainy Cedar Falls Elopement

The Art of a Secluded Elopement

When Danielle and David first reached out to plan their September elopement at Cedar Falls, we had one main goal: intimacy. I timed their day perfectly to ensure the trails were quiet, giving them the rare gift of having one of the most iconic spots in the region all to themselves.

A Journey to the Falls

The adventure began with a hike down into the gorge alongside their officiant, Amy F. Aurore. After a quick shoe change and some careful hopping over slick rocks, they found it—an epic spot with sweeping 360 degree views of the landscape. The lighting was soft and ethereal, and the very first hints of autumn gold were just beginning to touch the leaves. Unfortunately, the waterfall was dry due to a drought but the scenery was still gorgeous.

The Unscripted Moment

Just as Danielle and David began sharing their vows, the universe decided to add its own magical touch. Despite zero rain in the forecast, a sudden rainstorm swept through the gorge. Instead of dampening the mood, the unexpected downpour transformed the ceremony into something truly special and deeply romantic. There is something incredibly grounding about promising your life to someone while the world transforms around you.

Wildflowers and Cake

After Amy hiked back out, Danielle & David spent some time exploring the gorge for couples portraits. To cap off the adventure, we hiked up to a hidden wildflower field I had scouted on the way in. Under the open sky, they spread out a blanket for a private cake picnic among the blooms.

Handcrafted Details, Lasting Memories

It was the perfect, quiet end to a day defined by adventure—and I was so honored not only to capture it all but to have handcrafted Danielle’s bouquet for the occasion.
