Spring Ash Cave Surprise Proposal in the Hocking Hills

Spring in the Hocking Hills

This past Saturday, I headed to Ash Cave to document a chapter in Hannah & Nick's story, and the woods felt particularly alive with both people and spring wildflowers.

The forest floor in spring is alive with wildflowers in the Hocking Hills, Ohio.

On the hike in, I looked for my favorite wildflowers: Dutchman's Breeches. The look like tiny white pants hanging on a clothesline.

Gifts From The Forest

Further down the trail, the forest offered up another gift. I just finished photographing a Trillium and started walking towards the cave.

A Small World Full of Happy Adventures

A man started walking beside me and said, "Hello, you were my daughter and future-son-in-law's photographer!" I didn't recognize him but then he pointed towards a couple walking ahead. It was Travis and Sarah, whose proposal I photographed last November! Hearing about their wedding plans reminded why I love this work. It's not just about one day; it's about the happy adventures that follow.

She said, "Yes!"

When Nick and Hannah arrived, he waited patiently for the waterfall crowds to thin. The extra hikers actually helped me to blend in, allowing me to get much closer than usual.

Instead of staying far back with my telephoto, I was right there to capture the atmosphere when he dropped to one knee.
